Fleming nominated to replace Poulin; speeder hits 100 with ...

Lt. Patrick Fleming of Fairfield has been nominated to become the 17th chief of the Maine State Police. Gov. Baldacci has forwarded the nomination to the Legislature. Fleming, a 23-year Maine State Police veteran, is in charge of the Liquor Licensing, Gaming and Weapons and the Executive Protection Unit. He has overseen that division since 2004. "Lt. Fleming has the highest level of personal and professional integrity and has always conducted himself with fairness and compassion, which are core principles of the State Police," said Baldacci. Fleming joined the department in 1984 and patrolled in Troop C (Skowhegan) for nine years. He was named detective in 1993 and assigned to Executive Protection guarding Gov. McKernan. Fleming remained in that unit during the entire eight years of the King administration and two years of Gov.
