Advantage Floyd As Performance Cars Open Their Season
Holden hero Peter Floyd came out fighting with the fastest practice time when the Australian Performance Car Championship opened its 2007 season at Wakefield Park circuit, near Goulburn, today.
Floyd, the 2005 champion, topped the timesheets after two practice sessions in his Holden HSV GTS, his margin of 0.69 seconds to second place suggesting he has adapted sooner to the introduction of a new Pirelli control tyre.
Much of the field of production-based performance touring cars experienced the tyres for the first time only today and times are expected to tumble when drivers return to the track tomorrow for qualifying and then two races on Sunday at the Fujitsu V8 Supercar event.
Three Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 drivers, Mark King, Gary Young and Graham Alexander, came in behind Floyd.
